Wilford Compton

Wilford "Tuck" Compton, 91, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 8:12 A.M. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at his home. Wilford was born February 28, 1921 in Faubush, KY, son of Chester Compton and Hattie (Widdle) Compton Kennedy. Tuck married Helen Webb on April 10, 1950 in Hoopeston, IL. She survives in Hoopeston. He is also survived by one son: Steve (Verna) Compton of Hoopeston, IL; three daughters: Vicki Johnson of Hoopeston, Teresa Lane and Mike Dean of Hoopeston, IL and Linda Atteberry of Lake St. Louis, MO; one sister: Christine Hill of Grand Prairie, TX; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers and one daughter: Charlene Young. Tuck worked as a mechanic for 40 years. He first worked at the Ford Garage for 20 years and later owned and operated Compton's Garage for 20 years. He belonged to the Northfork Conservation Club for many years and helped raise pheasants. Tuck enjoyed fishing, hunting and pitching horseshoes. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends. A visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 16, 2013 at the Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 16, 2013 at the Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Cremation rites will follow funeral services. Memorial donations may be given to the Carle Hospice Center 206A East Anthony Drive Urbana, IL 61802-7344.
