Vernice L. Thornsbrough, 83, of Danville, died at 12:57 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2011, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville. She was born April 3, 1928, in Colusa, to Rolla Wylder and Ellen (McConathy) Wylder. She married Harlan Thornsbrough June 1, 1947, at Alvin Christian Church. He survives in Danville. Other survivors include a daughter, Ginger (Ron) Mack of Covington, Ind.; a son, Steve (Marie) Thornsbrough of Rossville; grandchildren, Brittany (Paul) Powell of Tilton, Marcy (Martin) Walworth of Bismarck, Brock (Amie) Thornsbrough of North Webster, Ind., and Brad (Michell) Thornsbrough of Oakwood. Vernice also is survived by 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Alfred; one sister, Nola; and one infant son. Vernice was a housewife. She attended the Second Church of Christ in Danville. She taught Sunday school in her earlier years while attending the Alvin Christian Church. Her life revolved around cooking meals and baking for her family and friends. Vernice enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, at Bethel Cemetery in Rossville. Officiating: the Rev. Bruce Thornsbrough. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alvin Christian Church.
