Sadie Beth Evans Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sadie Beth Evans, 71, of Hoopeston, IL, passed peacefully into the arms of her savior on Friday, July 8, 2022, at her home after an extended illness. She was born on February 9, 1951, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Rev. Walter P. and Gertrude Collins Evans. They preceded her in death. Sadie spent her life serving her Savior by serving others. She was a special education teacher in the Wellington and Hoopeston Area School Systems for 33 years and was the Drama Director at Hoopeston High School. She was an active member of the First Church of God in Hoopeston where she taught children’s Sunday School and Bible School classes, was a pianist, and administrative board member for many years. Sadie’s passions for music, theater, and children were demonstrated by her long service to schools, community theater, and working for 26 summers at Camp Good News, a Christian youth camp on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She is survived by her sisters, Rev. Dr. Juanita E. Leonard of Indianapolis, IN, Rev. Karen L. Evans of Hoopeston, IL, and Naomi M. Baker of Fishers, IN; one nephew, Jeremy Baker of Fishers, IN; two nieces, Jennifer (Paul) McCain of Indianapolis, IN and Martha Joy (Brian) Davis of Findlay, OH; five great-nieces and nephews, Noah, Brennen, Anna, and Autumn Davis, and Charles McCain. She is also survived by special friends, Gail Barnes of Hoopeston and Sylvia Stoner of Pendleton, IN. In addition to her parents, Sadie was also preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Rev. Walter and Sadie Meyer Evans; maternal grandparents, Rev. Roy and Elizabeth Collins; and brother-in-law, L. Samuel Leonard. Visitation will be at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL, on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. and from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Friday July 15, 2022, with Celebration of Life at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston. Memorials may be made to the Hymnal Fund at the First Church of God, 1004 E. Orange St. Hoopeston, IL 60942.
