Ruth V. Hickman

June 2, 1921 - June 2, 2013

Ruth V. Hickman, 92, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 2:22 A.M. Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Heritage Health Rehabilitation and Senior Living in Hoopeston, IL. She was born August 5, 1920, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Charles L. and Judith (Tornquist) Lewis. She attended schools in Rileysberg, IN and then her family moved to Illinois and she attended Oaklawn, Cannon and Danville High School. On August 1, 1942, she married Donald L. Hickman, from Hoopeston, in Hannibal, Missouri. In Danville, Ruth worked at Sears Paper Box Company. In 1949, she and Don entered Lighthouse of International Foursquare Evangelism Bible College where they graduated in 1953 as Ordained Ministers. Their first church was pioneer work in Salisbury, N.C. for 10 years, taking the small beginning church into a beautiful church with a growing congregation. Next, they were assigned to Fairfield, Iowa, for 18 years, where the congregation grew. Although ready to retire, they accepted a pastorate in Petersburg, IL for 5 years and then retired to Hoopeston, IL. While in Los Angeles at the International Church of Foursquare Gospel, she was in charge of the mimeograph and the stockroom. In Salisbury, she was Assistant Manager of the credit office for Montgomery Ward & Co. Ruth is survived by one brother, Charles "Red" (Dorothy) Lewis of Tilton, IL. She is also survived by nieces Jean, Linda and Bonnie and their families, whom she adored and one special niece Rosalie Hickman. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Donald; one infant brother Johnny and two sisters, Mable (Chalmers) Hoagland and Esther (Harry) Howie.
