Robert E. "Bob" Lingley

Robert E. “Bob” Lingley, 97, of Hoopeston, died peacefully Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Illinois Knights Templar Home in Paxton. He was born December 18, 1917 in Clark County, S.D., the son of William and Anna (Wahlfeldt) Lingley. He married Ellen Anna Kietzmann on September 12, 1948 in Hoopeston. They were married for 57 years before she preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter, Diane (Herb) Glenn of Crescent City, FL; two sons, Dennis (Carol) Lingley of Greenville, IL and Dean (Laurie) Lingley of Hoopeston, IL; one sister, Annabelle (Willis) Bird of Hoopeston, IL; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Laura Lindley, Marie Webber, Emma Lindley, and Beulah Brown and one brother, Lewis Lingley. He was a lifetime farmer in the Prairie Green area. Bob was awarded the Chapter Farmer Honorary Degree for both Wellington and The State FFA. He served as a leader for the Prairie Hustlers 4-H club and was a member of the school board. Bob was a chartered member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; he served in numerous offices throughout the years. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, he was elected tax assessor for Prairie Green Township. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed making oatmeal cookies and caramel corn. A visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Friday September 18, 2015 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. with a visitation from 12:00 P.M. – 1:00 P.M. before the funeral service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church 302 N. Market St. Hoopeston, with Rev. James T. Batchelor officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, with military rites being accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384 and the Hoopeston VFW Buddy Egnew Post #4826.
