December 30, 1940 - September 28, 2015

Phyllis Joan (Farr) Freeland, 74, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 6:00 P.M. Monday September 28, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. She was born December 30, 1940, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Earl Jefferson Farr and Grace Cecilia (Gerlach) Farr. She married Anthony Ellsworth Freeland on June 24, 1961 at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Danville, IL. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2009. She is survived by four daughters, Laura (Larry) Sorce of Chicago, IL, Denise (Joe) Goodrum of Hoopeston, IL, Jeanine (Erich) Jenig of Romeoville, IL and Judy (Dave) Wolfe of Avon, IN; two sons, John (Tricia) Freeland of Hoopeston, IL and Ed (Bridget) Freeland of Crystal Lake, IL; one sister, Kay Noll of Hoopeston, IL; three brothers, Jim (Susie) Farr of Elkhart, IN, Joseph Farr and John Farr both of Bradenton, FL; thirteen grandchildren, Andrew, Anthony, Angelo, Dana, Erica, Ryane, Nelson, Kennedy, Connor, Mitchel, Monica, Nicholas, and Ian; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Milan, and Marley, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Judith Elaine and Constance Ann. Phyllis worked as a branch manager at MainSource Bank. She was a Hoopeston Police Commissioner and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Phyllis was a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed golfing and bowling in her early years, later in life Phyllis loved playing bridge, reading, and gardening. She was a devoted Democrat and loved politics. A visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. Saturday October 3, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 423 S. 3rd St. Hoopeston. The funeral mass will follow the visitation at 2:00 P.M. Saturday October 3, 2015 at the church, with Father Patrick O’Neal officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
