Marvin Leigh, 86, of rural East Lynn, IL, passed away at 10:55 P.M. Friday December 2, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born on the farm in East Lynn, IL, on June 4, 1930, the son of Lawrence Elmer and Hazel (Hammerton) Leigh. He married Lila Otto on January 2, 1953 in Hoopeston, IL. She survives in rural East Lynn, IL. He is survived by one daughter, Marty (Russell “JR”) Borders of Mahomet, IL; three sons, Greg (Janet) Leigh of Danville, IL, Russ (Linda) Leigh of Hoopeston, IL and Chris (Lisa) Leigh of East Lynn, IL; one sister, Georgianna Haynes of Peoria, IL; 13 grandchildren, Todd (Betsy) Pence, Chad (Nikki) Pence, Gabriel (Carrie) Borders, Michael (Veronica) Borders, Kent (Melissa) Leigh, Erin (Jason) Courier, Adam (Nicole) Leigh, Rachel (Shaun) Gillins, Elizabeth (Michael) Silver, Jason Leigh, Cody (Heather) Moore, Alan (Lauren) Leigh and Bryce Leigh; 14 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and 26 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Marian Osborne and Elinor Martin and one nephew, Dave Kuntz. Marvin was a life-long farmer in the rural East Lynn area and tended to his hog operation that he was passionate about. He served in the United States Marine Corp and was a member of the First Church of God in Hoopeston. He served on various church boards and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Marvin served 4 years on the East Lynn School board from 1970-1973. He then served 12 years on the Hoopeston-East Lynn School board from 1974-1985 which he served as President from 1979-1985. He later served on the Regional School Board of Trustees for several years. Marvin also served on the East Lynn Fire Department for several years. He loved to read and study the Bible. He was a lifelong White Sox fan and enjoyed playing and watching sports. Marvin especially loved to watch his kids and grandkids ballgames. A visitation will be held 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday December 7, 2016 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday December 8, 2016 at the First Church of God 1004 E. Orange St. Hoopeston, IL, with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in the East Lynn Cemetery in East Lynn, IL. Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384 and the Hoopeston VFW Buddy Egnew Post #4826. Memorials may be made in Marvin’s name to the Hoopeston-Area Sports Boosters or the Hoopeston-Area FFA Alumni Association C/O Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL 60963.
