Junior Eugene “Gene” Polson, 68, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 12:00 P.M. Sunday May 18, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born March 21, 1946, in Danville, IL, the son of Earnest and Sarah (Crabtree) Polson. He married Janice Coon on February 6, 1966 at the First Christian Church in Hoopeston. She survives in Hoopeston. He is survived by one daughter, Karen Porth and significant other Darrin Eighner of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Kevin (Monica) Polson of Cheyenne, WY and one brother, Leon Polson and significant other Chris Johnson of Hoopeston, IL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and a special friend Bob Porth. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Lucille Nosler. Gene worked at Stokley’s in Hoopeston for 14 years. He was very active in the Hoopeston Jaycees, were he was a past chairman of the National Sweetcorn Festival parade and also a past chairman of the sweetcorn. He was a past recipient of the Odell Crabtree award for Rooster Jaycees. Gene was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, the Hoopeston Masonic Star Lodge #709 and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
