Guinivere Rose “Gwen” Swartz, 87, of Wellington, IL, passed away at 10:29 A.M. Saturday September 12, 2020 at Watseka Rehab in Watseka, IL. She was born November 8, 1932, in Hoopeston, IL, the daughter of Guy and Bessie (Morfey) Shinneman. She married Delmar C. Swartz on December 1, 1956 in Orangeville, IL. He preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, Claudia (Wes) Carter of Hoopeston, IL; two sons, Stan Swartz of Wellington, IL and Kevin (Sue) Swartz of Urbana, IL; one sister-in-law, Donna Judy of Hoopeston, IL; six grandchildren, Sean Knoll, Jordan (Abby) Carter, Phillip (Chanterelle) Swartz, Jenna (Steve) Keller, BethAnn (Steve) Schneider, and Brenna Swartz; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Guyneth (Gardiner) Wyman; and brother-in-law, Duane Judy. Guinivere worked as a switchboard operator for the Hoopeston Phone Co. in the early 1950’s. She then became a farmer’s wife and homemaker, caring for her children and later, grandchildren, attending all their activities. She was a member of the Prairie Green Church of Christ where she served on the fellowship committee for many years. Guinivere was an avid walker, enjoyed her bowling league team, and she loved the fall season and harvest. A private graveside service will be held at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, with Rev. Dustin Wells officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wellington-Greer Fire Department 2532 E 300 N Road, Wellington, IL 60973 or Prairie Green Church of Christ 278 N 2800 E Road, Hoopeston, IL 60942.
