Fernando Garcia – Galvan, 94, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 1:10 A.M. Friday September 21, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born April 22, 1918, in Piedras Negras, Mexico, the son of Luciano and Petra (Galvan) Garcia. He married Anita Gomez on October 16, 1950 in New Mexico. She preceded him in death. He is survived by: three daughters, Petra Casey of Dallas, TX, Patricia Mata of Hoopeston, IL and Pilar (Humberto) Rubio of Hoopeston, IL; six sons, Toribio (Yolanda) Garcia of Apopka, FL, Fernando (Lupita) Garcia Jr. of Roma, TX, David (Edith) Garcia of Woodburn, KY, Daniel (Diane) Garcia of Leland, NC, Andres Garcia of South Bend, IN and Alexander (Nieves) Garcia of Mission, TX; 36 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Fernando was a labor contractor for migrant workers. He enjoyed selling watermelons, traveling and telling stories. He also loved trucks, working outdoors and especially spending time with his family.
