Edith M. Carlson - Deany

May 21, 1922 - April 27, 2015

Edith Marie (Clouse) Carlson Deany, 92, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 8:23 A.M. Monday April 27, 2015 at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center in Hoopeston, IL. She was born at home in rural Iroquois County on May 21, 1922, the youngest daughter of Elmer J. and Emma (Finley) Clouse. She married Lloyd Linden Carlson on November 11, 1942 in Danville, IL. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1989. She later married Bernie Deany on August 10, 1991. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2014. She is survived by three daughters, Louise Lockhart of Des Moines, IA, Linda (Jim) Hunter of Normal, IL and Anita (Henry) Reutter of Hoopeston, IL; one son, Michael (Connie) Carlson of Wellington, IL; step-children, Michelle (Malcolm) Holmes of Laramie, WY, Lisa (David) Stewart of Newark, OH, John Deany of Flagstaff, AZ, Jim (Dina) Deany of Windsor, CO and Dave (Ericka) Deany of Los Angeles, CA; four sisters-in-law, Ann Clouse, Louise Hodge, Lillian Anderson and Mary Lou Means; one brother-in-law, John (Kay) Carlson of Milford, IL; eight grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters; 3 brothers; one granddaughter, Belinda Lockhart and two sons-in-law, Barry Lockhart and David Lundberg. Edith attended Illinois State University, where she received a teacher’s certificate. She began her teaching career in a one room school house and later taught at Stockland Grade School. After retirement, she became a substitute teacher. Edith was a member of the Prairie Green Church of Christ for many years, where she was on the Prairie Green Fellowship committee. She later became a member of the First Christian Church in Hoopeston. Edith enjoyed volunteering at the Bloomington Food Pantry, writing poetry and painting. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. A visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday April 29, 2015 at Anderson Funeral Home 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday April 30, 2015 at the First Christian Church 502 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL, with Larry Houseman officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston. Memorials may be made to the Hoopeston Public Library 110 N. 4th St. Hoopeston, IL 60942, First Christian Church 502 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL 60942 or Prairie Green Church of Christ 278 N 2800 East Road Hoopeston, IL 60942.
